Experimental Perfume Club

Experimental Perfume Club is a London perfume house started by ISIPCA-trained French perfumer Emmanuelle Moeglin, who began with small workshops in London in 2016. It makes its own perfumes, partly in Grasse and partly in its London lab, and at its lab-boutique in Marylebone you can try the range or blend your own scent.

The story

Experimental Perfume Club, nine scents to wear or blend

Experimental Perfume Club was founded in East London in 2016 by the French perfumer Emmanuelle Moeglin. She trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and spent years developing fragrances for the perfume industry in Paris, Barcelona and New York. In 2016 she began running small workshops in London, where people could smell raw materials, learn how a scent is built and try blending, and those classes grew into a perfume house.

Its range starts from nine Essentials, made to be worn alone or layered, and Signature Blends that each combine two of them. Every blend you make with the club is logged in its EPC Ledger under its own code, so you can reorder it later. The retailer 50 ml says the perfumes are developed and bottled in house, partly in Grasse and partly in a London lab.

Its own lab-boutique is at 9 Gee's Court in Marylebone, London, open every day, from noon on Sundays. You can test the range there, book a discovery session, or take the Luxe Blending Experience: about an hour, one to one, for £195, and you leave with a 50 ml eau de parfum made to your formula. A 50 ml Essential costs £125. Try Fig Neroli first: it is one of the nine Essentials, so you can wear it alone or use it as the base of a blend.

  1. Fig NeroliA Mediterranean garden at the end of a hot day, with crushed fig leaves, basil, neroli and orange blossom.
  2. Santal NuitNightfall kept on the wrist: Bergamot Incense and Sandalwood Musk blended so the day's warmth stays on the skin.
  3. Velvet IncenseA bright room early in the morning, as cool incense smoke turns soft with bergamot and powdery iris.
  4. Tonka ExtraordinaireTonka Sesame and Amber Iris together, roasted tonka stretched wider with amber, almond and myrrh.
