From 19th-century perfumers in New Orleans to independent houses in New York, the US has local perfume makers worth seeking out.

The French Quarter keeps two of the oldest perfume houses in the United States, one founded in 1843 and a family house open since 1931, and a studio nearby where you can blend your own.

New York's independent perfume houses range from a NoHo house with its own boutiques to small makers blending by hand in Brooklyn, and walk-in studios let you make a scent of your own.
