Jamal Kazura Aromatics, Bussorah Street

Family attar shop on the street leading to the Sultan Mosque. Ask to try the alcohol-free perfume oils on your wrist and have a small bottle filled. A second branch is at 39 Bussorah Street and the original at 728 North Bridge Road.

A half-day perfume route in Kampong Glam

  1. Sifr Aromatics workshop (42 Arab Street). Book the 1.5 hour session ahead, or walk in to browse from 10:00.
  2. Jamal Kazura Aromatics (Bussorah Street). A few minutes on foot. Try the attar oils on your wrist.
  3. Sultan Mosque at the end of Bussorah Street, then lunch in the lanes around it.

Practical tips

  • For a national-flower souvenir, look for a scent based on Vanda Miss Joaquim, Singapore’s orchid.
  • Attar is oil, not spray. Try it on your wrist and wait a few minutes before you choose.
  • Tourists can claim back GST on purchases of at least S$100 (including GST) from one shop, up to three same-day receipts. Ask the shop for a tourist refund and claim at an eTRS kiosk at Changi or Seletar Airport (Singapore Customs).
  • Bottles over 100 ml can’t go in carry-on luggage. Pack them in your checked bag.
  • Don’t wear perfume on workshop day, so your nose can judge the blend.
