The longest of the Grasse workshops and the biggest bottle for the price. You build your own perfume from top, heart and base notes with a guide, and Galimard keeps your formula so you can reorder it. Ages 8 and up. Latecomers are not let in once it starts.

Molinard classic workshop at the Bastide

Book this workshop

The shortest full workshop: one hour with a perfume expert, choosing from 90 essences. You get a numbered certificate to reorder your blend. The Bastide also runs a free 25-minute tour of its old perfume factory and museum. Ages 9 and up, no onlookers.

Fragonard perfumer workshop, Fabrique des Fleurs

Book this workshop

A teacher shows you how perfume is built, then you blend your own Eau de Cologne from 9 essences. It includes a guided tour of the factory, an apron and a diploma. You make a lighter cologne rather than a perfume. Ages 12 and up.

Flagship boutiques

Fragonard historic factory

A former tannery turned perfume factory. Free guided tours show old stills and the working bottling and soap rooms, and there is a small perfume museum inside. The tour ends in the shop, the easiest place in Grasse to buy Fragonard.

Gaglewski perfume shop

Small shop of a Grasse-born independent perfumer, in an old house a few steps from the perfume museum. A good stop for something you will not find at the big factories.

Free museums

Musée International de la Parfumerie

The town's public museum of perfume history, from ancient times to today, with a greenhouse of scent plants. Visit it first and the factory tours make more sense. Guided tours on Saturdays at 15:00 for 3 euros extra.

The perfume museum's gardens, planted with the crops grown for perfume around Grasse. Worth it if you want to see and smell the raw materials growing.

The Galimard and Fragonard workshops are on the roads into town, not in the old town, so allow travel time. Book ahead and arrive early: Galimard does not let latecomers in, and Molinard cancels your place if you are more than 10 minutes late.

A half-day perfume route

Best Tuesday to Saturday, when the small boutiques are most likely open. The museum closes on the first Monday of some months.

  1. 10:00 Musée International de la Parfumerie. Learn the history first.
  2. Gaglewski, a few steps from the museum, for a Grasse-made independent scent.
  3. Fragonard historic factory, on boulevard Fragonard in the town centre. Free tour, no booking, then the shop.
  4. Place aux Aires, the old market square. The 1000 Flowers and Geodora boutiques are on the square, and Galimard opens a shop there from May to October.
  5. Afternoon, optional: a workshop you booked in advance (see the table above).

Practical tips

  • Getting there: regional TER trains run to Grasse from Cannes (about 25 minutes) and some go direct from Nice (about 1 hour 10). From Grasse station, take the shuttle bus to the town centre.
  • Fragonard’s free factory tour needs no booking, and Molinard runs a free 25-minute tour every 20 minutes. The paid workshops need booking.
  • Test on skin, not paper, and give a scent an hour before you buy.
  • Workshop bottles are 50 to 100 ml, which is the carry-on limit for liquids, so they can go in your cabin bag. Anything bigger goes in the hold.
