The story

Héritage Berbère, Marrakech perfumes dressed in handmade trims

Héritage Berbère was created in Marrakech in 2008 by the perfumer Marie-Jeanne Combredet, who was born in Casablanca, with her partner Sylvie Ciabaut. After her studies Combredet spent seven years at the Swiss fragrance company Givaudan, then founded her own perfume company near Grasse. Its first boutique was near the Jardin Majorelle.

Its perfumes and home scents draw on the smells and colours of the souks of Marrakech. In 2017 the house opened its atelier in the Sidi Ghanem district. Each bottle is dressed in passementerie, trims in colours chosen to match the scent, made by hand by Moroccan artisans. The eaux de parfum are unisex and grouped in lines such as Les Oasis, Les Inédits and Les Intemporels. The house says it keeps a spirit of craft and independence.

In Marrakech there are two boutiques of its own: one at 366 Sidi Ghanem and one in the medina at 14 rue Amsafah, on the route Sidi Abdelaziz. A 100 ml eau de parfum costs €69 to €80 on its site. Try Ambre Extrême first: a spicy amber from Les Intemporels, with rose, dried fruit, vanilla, sandalwood and oud.

  1. Ambre ExtrêmeA spicy amber of rose and dried fruit over vanilla, sandalwood and oud, from the Intemporels line.
  2. LiwaFrom the Oasis line: pink pepper and saffron over myrrh, amber and vanilla.
  3. SkouraAnother Oasis scent, bright citrus and citron with nutmeg and cardamom over cedar, leather and Peru balsam.
  4. TinghirAn Oasis scent with Moroccan jasmine and rose at its heart, over birch, patchouli and ambergris.
  5. DamasFrom Les Inédits, a leathery, spiced scent of iris, cinnamon, cardamom and rose over cedar and sandalwood.
