The story

Munich's two-note perfumes, by the cathedral

Lengling Munich was founded in 2014 in Munich by the married couple Ursula and Christian Lengling, and it calls itself Munich's first perfume house. The family name gives the house its idea: every perfume is built on two contrasting notes, one called LENG and one called LING, such as dark leather against sweet cotton candy.

Ursula Lengling creates the scents and takes two to three years over each one, working from memories, moments and people. The house says it uses natural materials where it can, such as vanilla from Madagascar and jasmine from Egypt. The metal clasp on each bottle copies a pebble from the Isar river and is polished by hand. Its wunderwind No 9 won a German Duftstars award in 2018.

In summer 2021 the house opened its first flagship store in central Munich. Its own boutique, the Parfum Boutique am Dom, is at Frauenplatz 10, entrance on Sporerstraße, open Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 19:00. A 50 ml extrait costs €235, and a discovery set of twelve small vials costs €70. Start with eisbach, the house's love letter to Munich, named after the wild stream in the heart of the city.

  1. eisbachA love letter to Munich's wild city stream and to Japan, built on the image of a wave, with mint and grapefruit over green tea and mimosa.
  2. sekushi No 7Its name is Japanese for seductive: candy floss, raspberry and apricot play against dark leather, patchouli and frankincense.
  3. wunderwind No 9An escape to a silver-green pine grove above a sunlit sea, with pine needle, honey and rosemary set against a sea breeze and lemon.
  4. NamuiA trip to Thailand, where wild tropical landscapes meet the calm of a spa: orchid and exotic woods over vanilla, tonka and coconut.
