The story

A New Delhi house built on a family legend

Maison De Fouzdar is a New Delhi perfume house founded by Dimple Fouzdar, a traveller and collector of fine fragrances. Its story goes back to the 16th century, in the reign of Sher Shah Suri, when a Persian woman who blended aromatic elixirs married a commander-in-chief of his army. Fouzdar was a title for noble commanders, and over the centuries it became the family name.

The house joins French perfumery with Indian materials, and its main line is a collection of extraits de parfum built on saffron, oud, sandalwood and musk. It also makes home scents, candles and hair fragrances. In May 2025 ELLE India listed it among niche fragrance brands and singled out Fleur de Soleil, a unisex extrait that evokes a palace garden.

In Delhi, its own flagship boutique is on the ground floor of R-45, Block R, Greater Kailash I, near the HSBC branch. Its store list also names Scentido Niche Perfumery at shop 54-B in Khan Market. Try Santal Safran first: the house calls it its best-seller, with saffron at the start and creamy sandalwood after. It costs ₹9,800 for 50 ml, and a 10 ml bottle at ₹1,299 is an easier first buy.

  1. Santal SafranGolden saffron opening into creamy sandalwood, the house's best-selling scent.
  2. Oud ImperialInspired by distant lands and the golden age of perfumery: smoky oud with resins, amber and musk.
  3. Fleur de SoleilPetals in the morning sun, with rose and coconut over sandalwood, jasmine, leather and oud.
  4. Santal ScandalA scent of modern sensuality, with Australian sandalwood and smoky cedar, then leather, cardamom and iris.
