Founded 2012

OMANLUXURY was started in Muscat in 2012 by young Omani founders and grew out of a college project. The perfumes are made in Muscat and draw on Omani materials and places: frankincense from Dhofar, the roses of Jabal Akhdar and the Omani khanjar dagger. It now sells in many countries but keeps its own shops in Muscat malls.

The story

Frankincense, mountain roses and the khanjar, made in Muscat

OMANLUXURY was established in Muscat in 2012. Its chief executive, Muatasim al Hinai, told the Oman Observer in 2021 that it started humbly during college days, and that the name simply joins the words Oman and luxury. The brand's own site names two founders: Muatasim Al Hinai, the managing director, and Muadh Al Sinawi, the commercial and marketing director.

The perfumes are made in Muscat. Al Hinai said all manufacturing is done there and only raw materials are imported, from Europe and Asia. The scents draw on Omani places and symbols: Dhofar, the land of frankincense; the roses of Jabal Akhdar, hand-harvested each spring and distilled over wood fire; and the khanjar, a symbol of Omani identity. The bottle cap takes its shape from the traditional Omani kumma cap.

In Muscat it sells through its own shops. The Oman Observer named the OMANLUXURY shop in Mall of Muscat as an official store, with a second then due in Salalah Grand Mall; check its store locator for the current list before you go. A 100 ml Royal Incense costs 67 Omani rials on its web shop. Try Royal Incense first: it reworks Omani incense, the thread that runs through the house, with pink pepper, honey, amber and leather.

  1. Royal IncensePure Omani incense and the old incense and spice trade of southern Oman, with pink pepper, lily, honey, amber and leather.
  2. KhanjarThe Omani khanjar as a symbol of prestige, in saffron, bergamot and flowers over oud, ambergris and leather.
  3. DejanThe roses of Jabal Akhdar, given a smoky edge with oud, musk and amber.
  4. WanderlustThe fig trees and green slopes of Jabal Akhdar after the rose season, as a green fougere.
  5. OverdoseThe energy and freedom of Oman's coast, in citrus and spice over jasmine, vetiver and musk.
