Perfumer Linda Pilkington opened her first boutique on Old Bond Street in 2001 and named the house after her middle name and the street of her first small workshop. She is known for rare ingredients such as champaca, Ta'if rose and black hemlock. The perfumes are made in the house's own studio in England, and the boutique is still in Mayfair's Royal Arcade.

The story

Linda Pilkington's perfume house in the Royal Arcade

Ormonde Jayne began when Linda Pilkington, working from her kitchen in London, won her first client, Chanel Fine Jewellery, which ordered 50 scented candles. To send an invoice she registered a company, naming it after her middle name and the road where she set up her first small workshop. In 2001 she opened her boutique on Old Bond Street.

The house works with materials rarely used in perfumery, such as black hemlock, champaca and Ta'if rose. All products are made in its own studio in Kent, where the oils mature for months before they are filtered and bottled, and the perfumes are poured at the maximum strength allowed. It describes itself as an independent house.

In London, its own boutique is the flagship at 16 The Royal Arcade, 28 Old Bond Street, in Mayfair, open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00. In 2021 The Sybarite described a circular bar there where visitors could make their own scent. An 88 ml bottle of a signature perfume costs £235. Smell Ormonde Woman first: it begins and ends with black hemlock absolute, used in a quality and amount the house calls rare.

  3. Ta'ifA bold rose named after the town of Ta'if above the Red Sea, a perfume for dusk and parties rather than daylight.
  4. ChampacaThe small pale orange flower held sacred in the Indus Valley, with neroli, bamboo, rice and green tea notes.
  5. ToluPure resin from a Peruvian tree, with frankincense, amber and orange blossom.
