The story

Perfumers' Journey, Thai memories turned into perfume

Perfumers' Journey is a small Thai perfume house with its head office in Din Daeng, Bangkok. Its site credits the perfumer Sakul Pawasuttikul with TINI tini, and Scent Verdict names him as the brand's founder. Each perfume starts from a story, often a Thai place or memory: a grandmother's garden, a Phuket regatta, the smoked longans of Lamphun, a hospital near the Thai border.

Its awards page lists Best of Fougère at the Thai Perfumers Fair 2024 for Cape Andaman, and finalist places at The Aesthetics of Scent Awards 2024 for Baan Suan and Monday Morning. Lamphun Gold received an honourable mention at the 12th Art and Olfaction Awards, and TINI tini won an Emerging Perfumer Award from the Asia Perfume Foundation. Scent Verdict says the scents are made from scratch rather than from ready-made bases.

It has no shop of its own in Bangkok. Its stockist list names Skonx Perfumery on the 2nd floor of CentralWorld (Eden Zone), at Central Park Silom and on Songwat Road; EVC: Every Co-Incidence at 3 Sukhumvit 49; and King Power City Boutique on the 1st floor of Parade at One Bangkok. On its online shop most 30 ml bottles cost 2,400 or 3,100 baht. Try Baan Suan first: green mango and jasmine from a grandmother's summer garden, and a 2024 award finalist.

  1. Lamphun GoldThe golden longans of Lamphun, which local farmers smoke whole to keep their sweetness past the season.
  2. Baan SuanGrandma's garden in summer: jasmine in the air and sweet-sour green mangoes picked from the tree.
  3. Cape AndamanThe December regatta off Phuket, when the marina smells of citrus and neroli colognes made for the heat.
  4. Tea IndustryTeas from around the world, aged and infused, paired with fresh calamansi.
  5. BorderlessA true story of a doctor near the Thai border whose patients gave rice from their harvests, which was then shared onward.
